How to spot a successful open source project

I found this graphic in a great InformationWeek article on how to spot good open source projects. The emphasis is on commercial open source, but I think the principles generally apply to all open source projects.

I was wondering how you feel this approach compares to the Open Source Maturity Model?

Having asked that, I want to say that I have found that overwhelmingly, interaction with the community has determined the desirability of using one open source project over another within any given category.
